Monday 19th August
Supplies were running low so we headed to the local shopping centre to stock up. We spent some money, bought some lunch (yay donut!), and then headed back to the van…
Now, Tom had driven us there, however, on our way back to the van, he turned to me. His face began to flush and then he said the magic words; “you have the keys, right?” To which I went “Nope, you drove…”
A mad dash back to the van proved our worst fears; the keys were in the ignition, and the doors were locked.
After trying to break in by whacking the doors (we wouldn’t make very good thieves) we realised the boot which leads to our kitchen was open! After unloading everything we could, we managed to create a space along the bottom of the van for Tom to slide in, and unlock the door! It worked! We were in! (We now make sure we have the keys AND the boot is locked!)
The drama for the day was done so we headed back to the campsite to calm down!
Tuesday 20th August
Another lovely, sunny day in Cairns so we were off to explore the Cairns Botanical Gardens. Highly recommend checking these out, lots of nature and pretty colours! We took the camera to practice taking nice pictures, and had a few lizards kindly act as models for us.
We grabbed lunch in the Gardens Cafe, which was lovely, with a tropical surrounding!
Dinner was veggie Irish stew; yum yum yum!
Wednesday 21st August
A day of exploring along the beachfront, without going in the sea – no chance of being eaten by crocodiles for us! Found some lovely shells and also some fish scales on the sand. Was a nice chill day!
Thursday 22nd August
The morning started off with a surprise visit from a kookaburra on the swimming pool fence! It let us get really close before flying off.
Since being here I have missed pole dancing SO MUCH! I really got into it back home and was now beginning to have pole withdrawals. I did some searching and found a pole class not far away. After grabbing a new pole outfit from Kmart, and doing some well needed clothes washing, Tom dropped me off for my first pole lesson in weeks!
Pole Fitness Cairns was great! Super friendly, really good fun, and an excellent class! I really enjoyed it, and was sad that we probably wouldn’t be around to make it a regular thing.
Friday 23rd August
To recover from pole muscle-use, we had a chill day on the esplanade, with a quick dip in the freeeeeezing lagoon! It was nice to have a swim, very refreshing, but even with the sun beating down the water became too cold, so we hopped out. Sunbathing was a great way to warm up!
We needed an early night for an early morning, so after some red lentil curry, we headed to bed, ready for an exciting weekend ahead!
Next week(end)… Week 9.5
